DE Manual Pressure

In this year's game, you can actually get some pressure from the defensive ends by manually pass rushing them. This will help force your opponent into throw quicker than he wants to. We won't tell you this works every time, with every defensive end in the game, because it won't. In order for this to work, the DE must have speed. We recommend a rating of 84 or higher.

Note: For more NCAA 09 Strategies, please visit www.ncaa08tips.com .

The defense comes out in the 4-3 Normal Cover 3. We flipped the play at the play call screen because it overloads the left side of the offensive line. The strong defensive tackle, weak defensive tackle, and right end all line up on the left.

The first thing we want to do is crash the defensive line to the middle. Notice we are in control of the RE.

Once the ball is snapped, we let the RE rush inside.

About a split second later (count one in your head), we want to take control of him...

...and rush him outside. While we are doing this, we are pressing the speed burst button. Notice how the LT is blocking inside.

This allows us to blow around the LT with the RE.

We then go straight after the QB. Once we get around the LT, we can release the RE and let the CPU take control of him and go after the QB. Or we can stay in control of him and go after the QB ourselves.

Quick Tip: To prevent your opponent from rolling his QB away from the pressure, consider hot routing the LE in QB Contain. That way if he tries to roll out to the right side, the LE will be in position to make a sack.

In the screen shot, we sack the QB.

This is something you will want to play with. Against the CPU controlled QB, he more than likely will still get the pass off. However the CPU controlled QB may throw a few more interceptions. Against a human, you should be able rack up a few more sacks. Like we said, we can't promise it will work every time, but it will give you a pass rush from the defensive line in this year's game.

Does anyone recommend controlling the db if they get off screen, or just let the cpu control them. It seems easy to get out of position, but I want to cut down on passing yards.

Thanks, it's just meant to help give guys somewhat of pass rush. It does take some stick work, plus it requires the DE have some speed. Even then it doesn't mean the DE will get in. Play Action, slide protection left, or having a TE line up on the same side counters the pressure. Next week, I plan on posting defensive user catching. Hopefully it will help some of you who don't like to control defenders get a better understanding why you should in this years game.

I like the quality of this info, it's not a cheat that will guarantee a sack, but something to train at ... hmm like actual athletes! I also like the way I can immediately apply this to my favourite defensive plays in other formations. As you indicate it has to be used at the right time against the right offence ... hmm like real coach play-calling ... interesting.
Good stuff. And its free.
P.S. That sky line is fantastic ... makes me wonder if we could have extreme weather like
twisters coming through and sucking up the Marshall team. Maybe in NCAA 2010.
