Peter Moore's Blog

As we all know by now, Brett Favre is a New York Jet.  And if you believe the simulation we ran using the Madden NFL 09 engine, Jets fans should get ready for the playoffs.  Our prediction has the Jets winning 11 games, their most since the 1998 season, and New York earning a wild card berth in the playoffs.  It’s going to be fun to see Favre in the AFC East, but I’m sure my fellow Patriots brethren will tell you that we’re still not scared of the Jets.

Get a look at #4 in green and white.  Going to take a while to get used to this, huh?

Meanwhile, our team is in LA making final preparations for Maddenpalooza.  We can hardly wait to get down to the Rose Bowl for next week’s launch.

Chris Erb, our director of marketing for Madden and the brains behind the incredible flurry of launch activities, checked in earlier today with these pictures to give us a sneak peak from the Rose Bowl, where we’re expecting thousands of fans to turn out on Monday to see Good Charlotte, Busta Rhymes and buy their first copies of the game.  Most importantly – admission is free.  Get there early.

A couple of other important announcements we made today:

•    An online roster patch featuring Brett as the Jets starting QB will be available by launch day, and hopefully even Monday Aug. 11.  As we’ve said before, the final packaged version of the game that you can buy in stores beginning next week will feature Brett on an “NFL Greats” roster.  In Franchise Mode, players can transfer Favre to the free agent roster pool, and pick him up on any of the 32 NFL teams for the 2008 season.  Or, go online and download new rosters (that include other changes as well) after you buy the game on Tuesday.

•    As we’ve previously confirmed, Madden will hit stores on Aug. 12 with Brett in his Green Bay Packers uniform.  We don’t plan to re-issue the game with new packaging, but will offer a free downloadable cover in the coming days on easports.com featuring Brett Favre in a Jets uniform.  Fans can print this new cover out and insert it into the case of Madden NFL 09.  Look for it by Tuesday.

•    The Madden demo is now available.  We’ve been reading lots of feedback on it.  Make sure you download it and preview the new Virtual Training Center and Madden IQ test.  Our producers are in the forums answering your questions, and they’ve posted this story for anyone wanting more about the demo.

I cannot fathom the difficulty and the technology that it takes to put this all together. This is no offense to the intelligent people that are in charge of Madden. If you have a degree and are the smartest guy in the world doesn't make you a leader and it doesn't make you a manger. Until you fill that position you'll continue to come up short.

I am ok with 09. I hope it continues to get better. There are some bugs that are starting to show themselves. The locks ups are worrying me. I play for relaxation, its fun. But when you spend 4 hour trying to get one game in becuase it locked up at half time? It's just a let down, because I gave you guys the bennifit of the doubt. I've said time and time again. Peter Moore is going to be the difference. I just have a hard time understanding how the game gets out of your building with these problems. Does no one play these games? I try to be one of the more sane voices in the forums. I don't yell and scream and call people names. I'm a businessman and I try to look at it from that stand point. Guys from that stand point you have problems. As a consumer if someone else put out a football game that was better, NFL or not I would give it a try, and I think a lot of other people would do the same. I'm not talking about the right color socks. I'm not talking about the helmet don't match my team. I could care less about all that. I just want a game that works. You have to take a look at the big picture. I've said it and I will keep saying it. Mr Moore you need to hire a project manger. Someone that does not have his head in the code, someone that does not have his head in animations. Here's an example, one of the producers said on a site concerning the Lameau leap not being very accurate. "I oversaw the filming of the animation *****, but I haven't seen it in acctuall game play yet". Let's look at this. You guys spent money on a film *****, and the guy who shot it, turned it over to animators and then did not see the out come untill it was basically to late to change it. This is my point. There should be a guy that is incharge and is checking on all aspects everyday. Having meetings with the test players. Getting the notes and having meetings with dept heads. If someone else can get a football game on Next Gen that works, you guys will lose.
