One of FIFA's leading independent community sites, Sweetpatch.tv, held an official tournament as part of Microsoft's Xbox Live Xtival '08 event over the weekend, and by all accounts it went off brilliantly.
Some of the world's top FIFA players took part, including reigning UK No.1 Chris 'ChriSSyB' Bullard, CGS champion Michael 'Bazza' Barrett and Australia No. 1 Scoorey. But it wasn't to be a night to remember for these luminaries of the FIFA scene.
The tournament was so popular the organisers were forced to turn would-be entrants away at the door. The final event featured 32 players playing in eight groups, with the top two from each group going through to the knockout rounds.
Sweetpatch's very own CS did brilliantly to get to the final four, but met his match in the semi against ChriSSyB, who went on to the final with a 4-0 victory. There he was matched against the hitherto unknown pX.Classic.
Despite general expectations of a ChriSSyB victory, pX.Classic seemingly kicked off the game on some sort of superjuice. He was up 3-0 by half time and finished the game by utterly demolishing ChriSSyB 9-1.
Which is... astonishing.
Well done pX.Classic! Commiserations Chris.
Sweetpatch main man Dave Witts told us: "I have to say the event went like a dream and all 32 players added to an excellent tourney with a brand new FIFA star uncovered in pX.Classic... In any circumstances that is an exceptional result."
