Manager Mode Squad Numbers

Whats going on?? on manager mode is it possible to change the squad numbers when i buy a new player or do i have to accept it keeps giving them a number 2 shirt???

I don't know how true it is but I read a review of the game a while back which said in manager mode you cannot change the squad number. I don't think you can change it I've tried too.
