I was chatting with friends last week and one of them asked what I'd got planned this summer. Now; a few months ago I would have happily said I would be watching England get knocked out on penalties in the quarter-finals of Euro but obviously the famous 3-2 game has put paid to that. I've suddenly got a summer off from football according to my wife.
Even though we're not in the tournament this year I'm still going to watch as many games as I can - not easy being 9 hours behind the tournament time zone - but the big question now is who the hell do I support? It's odd; being a Blades fan I'm not used to supporting a winning team so I could decide to support someone like France or Italy and experience the pleasure that supporting a successful team brings. Alternatively I could plump for a team which is going to see Euro as a challenge to get something out of it and ride their rollercoaster but that doesn't sound like too much fun.
My fall-back option is to support the country of my wife; Germany but that... feels... odd :)
What do you think I should do? What are you going to do?
Hi Andrew, I feel exactly the same way and feel that as Croatia were our conquerers and they are a bit of an outsider I will back them as my outside bet for the tourney. Also got a bit of compassion for them after seeing their star player injured horrifcially recently in the premiership.
