England fans - how are you spending your summer?

I was chatting with friends last week and one of them asked what I'd got planned this summer. Now; a few months ago I would have happily said I would be watching England get knocked out on penalties in the quarter-finals of Euro but obviously the famous 3-2 game has put paid to that. I've suddenly got a summer off from football according to my wife.

Even though we're not in the tournament this year I'm still going to watch as many games as I can - not easy being 9 hours behind the tournament time zone - but the big question now is who the hell do I support? It's odd; being a Blades fan I'm not used to supporting a winning team so I could decide to support someone like France or Italy and experience the pleasure that supporting a successful team brings. Alternatively I could plump for a team which is going to see Euro as a challenge to get something out of it and ride their rollercoaster but that doesn't sound like too much fun.

My fall-back option is to support the country of my wife; Germany but that... feels... odd :)

What do you think I should do? What are you going to do?

It'll be great to watch the games in the office. One of the cool things about working on the FIFA games is the sheer number of football fans we get in the office. You can always tell which teams are playing as everyone gets their shirts out. When the fateful game against Croatia was played we hired a meeting room and paid for the game. Imagine a dark room with a big screen and about 40 desperate Englishmen. After 20 minutes there was an utter gloom set about the room but as soon as we equalised the whole room erupted. Fantastic moment but our joy was soon stolen. Gutted.

Oh, a happy belated St George's Day to everyone!

The 1994 World Cup was terrific. It's always good to see outsiders, or at least those who don't usually do so well, do well at a major event (like ***** did, though they had a great team).

I have a huge affection for both Croatia and Russia. Their philosophy is to play football and to be technical, neither of these teams possess big strong players like you would find in England, so I'll be supporting them throughout the tournament, irrespective of the fact I can't see either winning; especially as Russia's star player Arshavin will miss the first two games.

Also: I believe Modric is probably Croatia's main asset over Eduardo... but still a huge miss for them.

I think i will watch the whole thing as a complete neutral and might get my entertainment from placing bet's on teams then supporting who ever i think will win and just kick back and enjoy the football on offer......with out going through the rollercoaster ride which is called "England" for once :D

I can't do Portugal my Man Utd supporting friend; just not enough fair play for me although I'd quite happily sit through another incredible Holland vs Portugal game - a truly amazing football spectacle!

The last time we weren't in the big tournament was the 1994 World Cup in the US. I was gutted but still watched every game; there were some fantastic games that year which was good since they were so late at night for the UK tv audience.

I tried to look for Blades players with a link to Euro but can't find any so they didn't give me any guidance.

A tricky one.
