i just realized my short-cut to explorer was actuall IE with addons-disabled.   why on earth would microsoft do that to me?  Just horrible and not to mention the help was full of typos and mistakes.   Anyways - you shouldnt run the IE that has addons disabled.  its a bit of a pain and really confusing.
